Happy New Year! My first post of 2016 naturally has to be on the topic of resolutions/goals.
In the past when people have asked what my resolutions are for the year I’ve either not bothered making any or I’ll mutter something vague such as “to be happy”.
I’m at a stage now where I feel I need plan my life more rather than procrastinate and seeing what happens (or not as the case usually is). Towards the end of last year I found the things I put the most effort into gave me the biggest rewards so this year I’d like to build upon this.
There are several things that I’d like improve that I’m concentrating on initially, I’m sure as the year progressing I will add more goals to my list as a result of achieving my resolutions.
Having read various blog posts and articles over the last few days on the topic of resolutions/goals it seems the best advice is not to just make a list of goals that aren’t very specific i.e. “I’m going to lose weight” but to find good resolutions, find out what steps it takes to get there and make it easy to achieve. By sharing my resolutions on this blog I hope it will keep me more accountable in order to achieve my goals.
This post will start things of with an overview of what I’d like to focus on throughout the year and subsequent posts will detail how I’m planning on achieving my goals. Each month I will share my progress with you.
Without further ado here are my 2016 goals.
1. Change my exercise and eating habits –
I’ve noticed over recent years that my metabolism has slowed down and the pounds have been piling on. I’m getting fed up of my clothes not fitting properly and feeling unfit. I have been burying my head in the sand regarding this as I don’t currently know what I weigh. I’m not going to aim for anything unrealistic such as “I want to be able to run a marathon by the end of the year” as that’s never going to happen!
2. Be more financially responsible –
I am guilty of splurging on things when I go shopping and don’t always think of the long term future. I’m not in debt but I know my savings could much better. I’d like to spend my money better i.e. buy in sales, buy second hand, buy local, buy handmade etc more than I currently do.
3. Be a more effective blogger –
In the past when I’ve made zines or written blogs I was either at university and had more free time or if I was in full time employment I had less commitments in my life. I would like to be able to post on here more frequently and to make sure I’m happy with the quality of the posts I’m producing.
4. Be more organised and confident in my personal life –
By achieving this goal I should in theory be able to achieve my other three goals. I am guilty of saying things like “I wish I had time to do things” but I do realise that actually I do have the time to do these things however my time has been spent trawling through social media and binge watching Netflix instead.
After a bit of an “annus horrilis” last year my confidence/ self esteem has taken a bit of a battering so this year I’m planning on more self care. By doing things that I enjoy doing more and by taking care of myself more by eating better and exercising more I hope this will improve my mental wellbeing.
