I’m a massive supporter of independent designers, makers, businesses and shops and I’d like to share with you some of my favourites on this blog. Here’s a little something about one of my favourite bricks and mortar shops Berylune.
Berylune aka The Pint Sized Department Store is a bijou shop spread over two floors and is based in Leamington Spa. It’s run by sisters Amy and Emily and their best friend Zoe.
Stocking an eclectic range of products including stationery, gifts and homeware, a visit to Berylune alone is worth getting the train over from Birmingham.
Through their great eye for colour and recycling old tins and vintage furniture Berylune’s displays are certainly effective at drawing me over to see what stock they contain.
From washi tape, greetings cards and chocolate bars to telephones, light boxes and books there is something to suit most people’s budgets whether you’re after a quirky gift for a friend or you just fancy treating yourself.
The ladies of Berylune are super friendly and great at recommending items to you based on what you’ve picked up without coming across as a hard sell. On my last visit for example I picked up some glittery gold letters in the gift wrap section and was advised that they also had a Liberty print version in stock upstairs. I had picked up Flow Magazine which I buy regularly and was perusing the other magazines that they in stock and I was advised I’d enjoy issue 2 of Caboodle Magazine which I’d never heard of before but knowing that Berylune have great taste I was happy to give it a whirl and added it to my basket of goodies.
Even though the shop is tiny it doesn’t feel like everything is crammed in as they’ve really thought about the layout of the shop. I love the wallpapered stairs in there, each tread has a different pattern on it.
The only negative thing I would say is they have too many things I want to buy! Hence I tend to wait until pay day and have a splurge. My recent purchases as well as the aforementioned magazines and stickers included a pair of silver tiny triangle earrings which are perfect for every day wear (I think they were priced about £9), a white Kaweco fountain pen and two bath bombs (I chose Parma Chameleon which made my bath smell like those Parma Violet sweets and Starlight).
On my wishlist for my next visit are:
- this Rifle Paper Co. desk pad and also this to do desk pad
- these small traditional iron scissors
- I’m also coveting this necklace
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the shop you can also find Berylune online.
Have you visited Berylune? What did you buy? I’d love to hear about your purchases! Which independent shops would you recommend? Please add your comments 🙂
